The Columbian July 2010 – August 2010
I served as Intern Web Producer for The Columbian and Columbian.com the only local news organization in Vancouver, Wash. During this time as intern, I created video reports for the paper’s website and contributed some content to the print edition. I was able to learn from the newsroom environment and gained experience in content management systems for both online and print.

The Independent December 2009 – June 2010
I served as the editor-in-chief of The Clark College Independent, the student run and produced newspaper that serves a campus of 16,000 students and staff. While editor, I transformed the production of the paper by implementing a new editing system based on Google Docs and created a deadline based production schedule. I also put a focus on reliable weekly content, which included a partnership with a local television meteorologist to contribute a weekly forecast. As editor, I penned a weekly column that gave readers insight into the workings of the newspaper. The Independent won 11 Washington Community College Journalism Association Awards during my tenure.

Clark County Prosecutor’s Office August 2009 – August 2010
I worked for the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office as an office assistant and File Clerk. During his time in the PA’s Domestic Violence Unit, I gained invaluable experience of the legal system.

Special Projects
Reporting from the White House Fall 2010
In October of 2010, I had the chance to report from the first ever White House Summit on Community Colleges. I attended the event in the East Room of the White House where President Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Melinda Gates spoke about community colleges. During that time, I gained invaluable experience of being around a major government news beat and he was able to see what it’s like to be a White House reporter.

Shahala Middle School Documentary Fall 2009
I was asked to produce a promotional documentary for Shahala Middle School in Vancouver, Wash. The production process included several days of interviewing and several weeks of editing the video. The video appeared online and on a local cable television channel.

One Year Later Series Summer 2009
I decided to produce a web documentary series that looked at the Class of 2008 and how their lives had changed one year after graduation. I spent several weeks conducting interviews and collecting footage and then several weeks editing the footage into an eight part web series.
